The ABN AMRO Bank said on Monday it had been hit by a robbery at its diamond unit in Antwerp, Belgium.
Around $25 million worth of diamonds were stolen from a number of safes during the raid that took place last week, according to Michel Funck, spokesman at the bank. Funck said police described the suspect, who is also a client of the bank, as being of Argentinean origin, and between 55 - 60 years old, adding no arrests had been made so far.
He said the safes that were robbed contained diamonds of “less than 10 clients. We have strengthened our security measures and will do everything we can to find a solution for our clients,” said Funck.
Police in Belgium are offering a $2 million reward for tips about the robbery.
