Many Chinese couples are expected to get married on October 10, 2010, a date considered the “perfect wedding date” in the mainland. Couples planning to wed on this auspicious date are expected to boost the demand for platinum bridal jewellery.
An estimated 14.5 million couples are anticipated to hold their nuptials in 2010. According to a survey conducted by Oracle Added Value on the wedding jewellery market, platinum retains its dominance as the preferred precious metal for bridal jewellery, with 75 percent of brides and 68 percent of the grooms interviewed saying they have chosen platinum rings for their wedding.
The booming wedding market will continue to underpin platinum jewellery demand. China’s wedding registry estimated that 13.18 million couples would have registered their marriage by end 2009, representing a 20-percent growth year-on-year.
