For the past few years a leading trend in contemporary jewelry has been minimalism – using smooth, curved lines to create a polished look that embodies a form of mass consumption, but 2009 is likely to be remembered for its change, development and progression in jewelry and fashion trends.
According to a TechWiki report, jewelry trends for 2009 were dominated by the power of natural beauty, a concept which seemed to take the catwalks by storm as well. Fashion shows were the perfect place to see the importance given to symbolic adornments – jewelry meant to accentuate the strength and uniqueness of their wearer.
The dramatic effect of statement necklaces, long earrings and multiple bangles was used to demonstrate the new jewelry trend; and while not many of us can afford – or even want – to adorn such sparkles in our everyday lives, 2009's jewelry trends still allowed us to bring a hint of haute couture to our wardrobe and jewelry collection with key pieces of jewelry and clothing.
One of the passing year's most notable trends was black and silver jewelry. Black jewelry can be worn on every occasion and as most of it is reasonably priced, you can make a big impression – without making a similar one on your pocketbook. Another advantage to black jewelry is that it never goes out of style, so investing in a quality piece is worthwhile.
Another notable trend was quality over quantity: the need to be environmentally friendly has extended to our jewelry boxes and it is no longer trendy to have many disposable pieces of jewelry. Instead, consumers are urged to invest in quality, classic pieces. Here too, nature is credited as the greatest designer of all, creating natural, floral and leaf designs which are highly desirable both for their fashion value and their eco-friendliness.
