Three Large Colored Diamonds Recovered at Saxendrift Diamond Mine

15.11.09, 10:58 / Mining
Mining Weekly reports that diamond exploration company Rockwell Diamonds has recovered three large colored diamonds at its Saxendrift alluvial diamond mine located in South Africa. The three diamonds recovered last month include a salmon-pink stone of 30.54 carats as well as two intense fancy yellow diamonds of 35.54 carats and 36.32 carats.

The salmon pink stone is reportedly a mixed color, including pink, orange and brown. The rough diamond, which is flat and elongated, is of excellent clean clarity and is a makeable stone, which is likely to yield a good recovery factor following polishing.

The intense fancy yellow diamond is also of excellent clarity. Its shape is octahedral but it features slight indentations, which will lead to a lower recovery factor in the polished form.

Rockwell noted that the three diamonds are being processed under the beneficiation agreement with the Steinmetz Diamond Group (SDG).

Rockwell CEO John Bristow stated: “Our Saxendrift mine continues to yield an array of exceptional diamonds, including large stones and smaller rare fancy stones of exceptional color. We expect the latest colored diamonds to attract strong rough diamond prices in an improving market.”
