Shop.org Survey: 85 Million Americans to Shop Today - Cyber Monday

Shopping Forecast for Cyber Monday - Up 18% over Last Year
01.12.08, 12:21 / Retail
Though traffic in stores was reportedly brisk over the Black Friday weekend, millions of Americans have saved some of their shopping for today, Cyber Monday, the official kickoff to the online holiday shopping season.

According to a Shop.org survey conducted this weekend by BIGresearch, 84.6 million consumers will shop online from home or at work; this constitutes an increase from 72 million in 2007 and 60.7 million in 2006. According to the survey, 37.2% of adults will shop on Cyber Monday, up 16.6% over last year (31.9%).

Scott Silverman, Executive Director of Shop.org, noted: “Online retailers have been planning their Cyber Monday promotions for months and are eagerly waiting to debut these deals to shoppers. Many people who didn’t want to fight the crowds or get up early to stand in line over the weekend have been waiting until Cyber Monday to start their holiday shopping.”

Shoppers who are looking for a bargain will be able to find thousands of deals online today. A holiday survey, conducted by Shopzilla, indicates that 83.7% of retailers will offer a special promotion on Cyber Monday, as compared to 72.2% last year. The most popular promotions are expected to be specific deals (38.8%), email campaigns (32.7%), and one-day sales (24.5%). According to the survey nearly one-fourth of retailers (22.5%) will offer free shipping on all purchases.

CyberMonday.com, a website that Shop.org launched two years ago, features holiday promotions and special savings from more than 600 retailers. The website was created by retailers as a one-stop shop for consumers looking for the best Cyber Monday promotions.

CyberMonday.com will be featuring a Deal of the Hour on its front page today, highlighting a different retail promotion every 60 minutes. Offers will include free shipping specials, dollars off, percentages off, and free gifts with purchase.
