Diamond company Sunrise has commenced field operations at the Cue Diamond Project in Australia as it anticipates drilling for Soapy Bore and Cue 1 kimberlites, the company announced. The field operations will include surface sampling of the kimberlites, preparing for drill sites and their access routes. Work will also involve geochemical tests and sampling new targets, Diamond News reported.
According to Australia law, Sunrise must first authorize an Aboriginal Heritage Survey due to land claims by the continent's indigenous peoples. This process has been delayed because of resistance from the Aboriginal Land Council regarding the composition of the team that would carry out the survey. Sunrise stated that they expect this disagreement to be resolved in due time, paving the way for kimberlite testing.
Sunrise is also involved in mining operations in North America and Europe: at Long Lake in Canada and I Derryginagh in Ireland.
