Diamond mine in Africa

Despite a wage strike called by workers at one of Namakwa's diamond mines, the diamond company insists that its projected production levels for the 2012 calendar year will not be adversely affected, Mining Weekly reported.

 

Namakwa announced that it had already entered into negotiations with the National Union of Mineworkers, representing its workers at operations taking place in the North West province of South Africa.

 

The alluvial mines produced over 6,400 carats of diamonds in the first quarter of the year, and Namakwa said that they expected to stick to schedule and produce a total of 20,000 carats of diamonds by the year's end.

 

Namakwa also own exploration rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo and a mine in Lesotho.
