When Avi and Nirit Berman begin to design a piece of jewelry, they work according to several criteria: First and foremost, the jewelry must be of superior quality from the aspect of design and finish. In addition, the design must be clean and free.
Another critical criterion is for the final product to be comfortable and suited for wearing so that the item flows with the wearer’s body. The main concept is to incorporate unique and even surprising aspects through uncommon proportions, antique items and unusual stones.
Nirit Berman explains: “The jewelry may contain several components: On the one hand, it will be fundamentally classic, but it may well incorporate personal and modular elements. It will often combine industrial work with hand craftsmanship or an ancient coin with a sculptural piece. In any case, our unique distinguishing mark is discernable in all of our collections.”
Berman continues: “We have a classic collection which contains 18 karat gold pieces embedded with diamonds. On the other hand, we have also developed a unisex collection made of diamond embedded steel and kinetic elements. We combine classic craftsmanship with cutting edge technology. But even when we incorporate unusual materials and sophisticated technologies we never lose sight of our unique style.”
The jewelry is suited to the human body much like a pair of shoes. When the Bermans design earrings, for example, they will always take into account where the item is situated in relationship to the face. Thus, the earrings are asymmetric and are produced differently to fit the right and the left ear.
Nirit notes that the factory’s location affects the character of the jewelry. The studio is situated in a spacious and airy workshop in northern Israel’s pastoral Yizrael Valley. The area undoubtedly inspires an atmosphere of equilibrium and tranquility: “Our line is balanced and flowing, just as our style is clean and individual.” The factory contains every stage of the manufacturing process, from the design, through the preparation and embedding to the final production stages. Many times the company produces custom-made jewelry according to a customer’s specification.
In the United States gold jewelry galleries have shown considerable interest in Berman Designers’ jewelry. These galleries participate in special trade shows for this kind of jewelry. The company’s jewelry pieces are also popular in Europe. The company, says Berman, also manufactures jewelry for leading jewelry brands worldwide.
“We do not deal in mass production,” Berman emphasizes. “Our jewelry is very individual with the aim of creating harmony with the wearer’s body. The combination of modularity, kinetics and asymmetry enables the creation of outstanding jewelry that stands the test of time and fashion.”
