New Book Gives Rare Insight into Colored Diamonds

11.11.09, 11:11 / World
While colored diamonds represent an increasingly important part of the diamond trade, there is little information about them in the popular literature.

However, this has been put right by the new edition of “Diamonds” by Marijan Dundek, a leading authority in the field with a lengthy experience in the diamond trade.

The book has a chapter on natural color diamonds, with descriptions and images of each main color group, including blues, browns, grays, greens, oranges, pinks, purples – and the supremely rare reds.

Written in clear, concise and jargon-free language, with full color illustrations throughout, the book aims to help the reader acquire a basic knowledge of diamonds and an understanding of the main factors that determine their quality and value.

It also outlines the history of diamonds and the growth of the diamond industry, and incorporates a new chapter on the life story of the Lesotho Promise, acquired by Graff Diamonds, which was 603 carats in the rough and was transformed into 26 D color flawless diamonds, all of which were set into a fabulous necklace.

“Diamonds” is aimed at professional jewelers and gemologists, valuers and auctioneers, students and teachers of gemology, prospective buyers of diamonds, or simply those interested in learning more about this most prized of gemstones.

The book has been praised by organizations including the Gemological Institute of America, the British Jewelry Association, the National Association of Goldsmiths, and the Gemological Association of Great Britain.
