Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez hosted CIBJO President Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri for a meeting during which they discussed the development of the fine jewelry sector in the country. The meeting was also attended by Guillermo Scotto, the Gold Committee Chairman of Peru's National Society of Industries (SNI).
Dr. Cavalieri met with a host of government and industry leaders, including the Prime Minister, Yehude Simon, and Javier Vel?squez, the President of the Peruvian Congress, who introduced the CIBJO President to the congress delegates. Discussions focused on Peru's intention to increase the downstream potential of its rich mineral resources, primarily through the development of its jewelry sector.
Following his meeting with President Perez, Dr. Cavalieri noted: "Peru's jewelry industry has enormous, but untapped potential. This is an opinion that is shared by both the government and the industry. They clearly want to develop it further, but in a way that is socially responsible and bring the best possible economic benefit to their country.”
Dr. Cavalieri is the chief guest of honor at the First International Conference on Jewelry, which is currently being held in the Peruvian city of Cajamarca. Today, Dr. Cavalieri will deliver the keynote address at the conference about Corporate Social Responsibility in the world jewelry industry.
The upcoming 2009 CIBJO Congress will run from May 3 to May 5 at the Sheraton Istanbul Atak?y Hotel, in Istanbul, Turkey. Members of the jewelry industry can still register for the event and book hotel rooms at the congress' dedicated website at http://congress2009.cibjo.org.
