The Kazkommertsbank, based in commodities-rich Kazakhstan, and MasterCard are planning to launch the “Diamond,” a credit card embedded with a real diamond and laced with gold.
The card, with an 0.02 carat diamond in its center, is aimed at the growing number of billionaires in Kazakhstan.
The card’s annual fee is $1,000 and its limit is $50,000. The “Diamond,” which is to be launched in two weeks, offers round-the-clock access to a personal credit card manager.
Only 1,000 cards are to be issued, at a monthly rate of 30 units. According to recent figures, there are an estimated 12,000 millionaires among Kazakhstan's population of 16 million and their number is on the rise. The country has announced its aim to be the world's leading exporter of uranium by 2010.
