A week ago Robert Lewis found a cargo bag containing $266,000 worth of jewelry in the middle of a road near Kansas International Airport. The bag bore the Brinks logo as well as a shipping bill for $266,000. Lewis, who is an airport employee, didn't hesitate and handed the cargo bag over to the local police.
Yesterday, Lewis received a check for $10,000 from Helzberg Diamonds as a reward. Helzberg's CEO Marvin Beasley was quoted as saying: "Robert Lewis is a hometown hero."
Lewis noted that Brinks had contacted him, promising a similar reward.
According to KansasCity.com, Lewis said that he would buy a new laptop and ceiling fan with the money and put the rest in a savings account. He added: "The jewelry belonged to someone. Someone who is about to get married could have been left waiting to get their ring."
