Titan Industries, the Indian jewelry retailer, is planning on opening its first Tanishq jewelry brand outlets in Chicago and New Jersey by January 2008. Expansion plans include the opening of a 10-store chain. The initial investment plans call for six to seven million dollars.
The company, which is a leading jewelry brand in India, plans to compete against high-end American brands.
Titan's initiative is part of a growing trend among Indian jewelry and diamond retailers who are penetrating the US retail market. Recently, the Indian company Gitanjali Gems purchased the Samuels Jewelers jewelry chain in the United States as well as the Canadian Tri-Star.
