A rare, pear-shaped diamond weighing 72.22 carats went for $10.26 million several days ago in Hong Kong. This makes it one of the most expensive jewelry items sold at an auction in Asia. Bidding for the unmounted diamond started at HK$60 million.
The D-color diamond is in the clearest category. Sotheby’s Hong Kong noted that the stone boasts “flawless clarity and excellent polish and symmetry.” The Auction House stated that the buyer would have the right to name the diamond.
A diamond necklace with 43 pear-shaped “internally flawless” diamonds weighing over 90 carats went for $4.81 million. In addition, a Patek Phillipe double-dialled wristwatch was sold for $1.51 million, which is a new world record for a modern wristwatch sold at an auction.
